What is Stewardship?

Stewardship is:

Everything that happens after saying, "I believe!"
Once we realize that God is the source of all our being and all our earthly time, talent and treasure, we must decide what to do with that knowledge - what will we give of ourselves to do the will of God in bringing the knowledge of his love to all of his people?

Using God's gifts to spread his kingdom on earth
Belief in the saving love of God through Christ requires stewardship. God in Christ has commanded us to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." This is the highest use of all the gifts we have from God.

Giving out of joyful gratitude, and gratitude from joyful giving
With belief comes gratitude for God's saving love. As we mature in faith, we come to an increasing understanding that our gratitude and our giving become so intertwined that it becomes difficult to tell one from the other. Good Shepherd, in turn, is grateful as a parish for all of its members' contributions, and believes in using those gifts wisely so that all may be brought closer to God.

A lifelong journey of growth in faith, discernment, and action
The journey differs for each person, as God has placed each of us on a slightly different path and blessed each of us with unique talents and resources. No matter where your journey of faith finds you, know that your gifts have meaning and value to God, and consequently to this parish.

Goals for 2010 - Because we believe that our baptismal covenant requires full participation in and stewardship of the ministry of Christ, we have set strategic objectives for the parish that we hope will enable each and all of us to move forward in that ministry. Click here for more information on these goals and what it will take to reach them, or click on "Goals for 2010" from the fly-out menu for Getting Involved/Stewardship on the left.

Pledging - Pledging represents an intentional, prayerful gift of financial resources, and allows the vestry to budget as knowledgeably as possible. For more information about pledging at Good Shepherd, including an online pledge card, click here [insert hyperlink to "Pledging" page] or on "Pledging" from the Getting Involved/Stewardship fly-out menu on the left.

Offering Your Time and Talent - Good Shepherd uses volunteers in many ways, for service ranging from short "go-fer" tasks to long-term, specialized ministry. Visit the various ministry pages on the left, and prayerfully consider where you might feel called to contribute. We will also soon begin posting ways to volunteer on the "Time and Talent" page under the Getting Involved/Stewardship fly-out menu on the left.
