What is the teacher to children ratio?
Ratios vary based on the age of the children. For children 6-12 months, the ratio is 2:8. For children 12-24 months, the ratio is 2:10. For children older than 24 months, the ratio is 2:12.
What is the age range of the children in each class?
Classes are divided into approximate six month age ranges (i.e. 6-12 months, 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 24-30 months, 30-36 months and 36+ months). Age is only one of the factors we consider when placing a child.
What can I expect for a daily schedule?
Each class' schedule varies due to the age of the group. However, a typical day might include: free play, a craft, manipulative activities, story time, circle time, creative movement/music class, playground, and an outing in the 6-person stroller for the children younger than 24 months. Each class is designed with age appropriate activities.
Do I need to send a snack and lunch?
PDO provides a child-friendly snack and diluted apple juice daily for a mid-morning snack. Parents send their child's lunch in a single divided container. Two percent cow's milk is provided by PDO at lunch. This is not applicable for the 6-12 month age group.
What are the associated costs?
An application fee of $150 should be submitted with your application. If we can not offer you a spot at PDO we do not keep your application fee. A $75 annual supply fee is due in the May prior to the start of school. Tuition is $225 per month and due one month in advance with the first payment due in May and the subsequent payment due September 1st. Tuition can be paid in cash or check. We are not set up to accept debit or credit cards. A small discount is offered for those interested in paying the annual tuition in advance.
Will my child nap while at PDO?
A rest period is included in your child's schedule, with the exception of the 3+ year old class. The rest period takes place after lunch until approximately 1:45. You child is not required to sleep, however each child is expected to remain quiet and still on their nap mat and respect their friends by not disturbing or waking their classmates.
