Holy Baptism is one of the two major Sacraments of the Episcopal Church. The other Sacrament, Holy Communion, flows naturally from Holy Baptism and is a continuation of the Grace one receives from God, in the company of the gathered Christian Community, the Church.
Holy Baptism is the means whereby one becomes a member of the Church, the Church being understood as all men and women, boys and girls who try to follow Jesus' example and teachings. The important word is try, because none of us ever is able to completely do this, but in this Sacrament we acknowledge that we are God's own.
In the Episcopal Church we baptize infants because they are part of the family and equally Baptism is nothing earned but rather a gift freely given. Parents and Sponsors answer for infants and young children where they explore their desires to become part of the Church. The responsibility for living according to these vows and promises is taken by the individual in Confirmation.
If you wish to have your child baptized, please call the church office at 214-351-6468 and ask for Kitty Price.
Adults wishing to be baptized should call the church office and arrange to join the Inquirer's Class to learn more about the church.
The service of Holy Baptism is found on pages 299-311 of the Book of Common Prayer and additional directions and information can be found on pages 298 and 312-314.
